Kamala
Beach Overview
Kamala was
originally a small fishing village about 12-15 minutes north
of Patong - and it has grown into wonderful vacation village
and residential community that has developed all around the
original village. Kamala is home to the "Millionaires Mile"
- the coastal road south of Kamala that was the site to some
of Phuket's first US$1, 2, 3, and 4 million++ homes.
Kamala
Beach is beautiful and about 2km in length with a soft
powder sand.. There are accommodations ranging from
guesthouse to international class, small and large resorts,
and many small Thai restaurants.
Kamala is the
perfect place to get away from it all, yet it offers a wide
variety of bars and even some live music. FantaSea - one of
Phuket's premier entertainment venues - is located in
Kamala.
There are really
several parts of Kamala: The bars and restaurants along the
main road, the beach road in the main part of Kamala, and a
beach road with lots of beach shack type restaurants - on
the northern end of Kamala. The northern part of Kamala is
entered about 1-2kms past the main part of Kamala - several
hundred meters past the entrance to FantaSea.
Regular bus (songtheaw)
service to and from Phuket Town is on offer during daytime;
tuk-tuk service is always available to Patong, 5km away.
