Cherng Talay really is a town -
or a village - not really a city. It is rapidly
changing as expatriates from around the world find
this area one of the most desirable on the island
for their multi-million dollar villas. But
most of the town retains its village roots. If you
walk the main road in town, you will find many small
restaurants with excellent Thai food (mom is
cooking!) at local prices.
For a real feel of the village
try the
Cherng Talay Walking Tour.
You will walk through the village proper and get a
real sense of what life is like. You will see the
more traditional settings, as grandparents sit on
the front porch of many a home and keep an eye on
the neighborhood.
Please greet the people that
you meet. You will often find them a bit shy, but
once you greet them you will see a very big smile
and they will return your greeting.
The
Night Market is an
enjoyable way to spend some time and see how the
local people live.
