Bang Tao, in spite of the rapid
development in this area, remains primarily a Muslim
fishing village - though industry is diversifying
into tourism and housing development. There is a
fairly long road of development along the main
highway and most recently along the coastal road as
well.
If you want to get a real feel
for this town try the
Walking Tour of Bang Tao
and walk by the
Bang Tao Fish Market.
There are two large mosques in
the central part of town as you head south, one on
each side of the road. This is the more
"traditional" part of town, reflecting as much the
ethnic Malay of many people in the area, as the Thai
culture.
The town has a very different
character along the beach road where you can find a
growing number of small Thai restaurants and bars
that serve the tourists that stay along the beach
areas. And don't forget the Beach Shack Restaurants
right on Bang Tao Beach - check the menu on the home
page for the slide show of restaurants and
recommendations for popular dishes.
Enjoy!
