 Bang
Tao and Cherng Talay Restaurants
You won't go hungry on this
part of the island, whether
you want Western,
Eastern, Thai, or any other kind of food.
Along the main streets of both
of these communities you will find native Thai
restaurants at Thai prices. If you see a series of
covered pots, these type restaurants are called
"pick and point". You simply look in the pot and if
you like it, you point to it and the staff will
either bag it up for take away or dish it up for you
to eat there. Prices from B25-60.
If you are looking for a nice
place, with comfortable chairs - also lots of
options - from modestly priced Thai fare to
upscale, first class Western food, at very
reasonable prices then Cheng Talay has much more to
offer than Bang Tao (which still clings to its
fishing village roots).
On the
west end of Cherng Talay, right before heading in to
Bang Tao, turn right at the Tesco-Lotus supermarket
and follow that road for about 500 meters - you will
find one of Cherng Talay's better Western food
restaurants, The Red Room - now located at the
lounge in the The Residence.
The main area for
restaurants in the area will be on the road that
heads into the Laguna Resorts complex in the Tinlay
Place area and between there and the resorts
entrance
Starting from Tinlay and
heading north (reverse this procedure if coming out
of the Laguna Resorts complex) you will find
Pepper's (casual Western dining), Toto's (Italian),
Tatonka and The Supper Club (both with international
cuisines), as well as several Irish or British style
pubs. Pizza shops and Indian restaurants tend to
come and go in this area as well.
If you go around the bend in
the road - continuing towards Laguna you will find
several restaurants sitting on a beautiful lagoon):
The Chaba and Lakeside (both Thai Food), and the
Fusion Restaurant (fusion). Across the street is
the Sandwich Shop with excellent breakfasts,
sandwiches and pastry items (try the cinnamon buns).
Siam Deli has moved just south
of the traffic light that leads into the Laguna
Resorts area.
They have excellent sandwiches
and breads.
