Cherng Talay: Cherng Talay has a
good variety of mini-markets and two supermarkets. Most
stalls offer very affordable and practically priced goods,
making Cherng Talay a favorite by many
savings conscious shoppers. In the
town center is a "Big One" - a supermarket that you will
find in various places around the island - with a surprising
variety of goods.
You won't have much trouble finding what
you are looking for if your needs are simple. On the
west end of town on the road to Bang Tao - almost in Bang
Tao - is a small Tesco-Lotus supermarket that is probably
better stocked with goods that Westerners are familiar with.
Just across the street from Tesco-Lotus
and towards town about 200 meters is
James' Whisky - a wholesale/retail shop that sells soft
drinks, beer, wine, spirits, water by the case - and just
about everything liquid you could want.
James' is a great place
to stock up when you first arrive - so you can avoid the
huge mark-ups that hotels charge for water and alcohol.
They don't pay attention to the hours of the alcohol sales -
as it is essentially a wholesale shop - but will quite
happily sell to tourist and residents. They will
deliver if you buy too much to carry back to the hotel.
Just ask.
A good size
mini-market is on the road just outside the Laguna Resorts
Complex - but you may find its prices are high
compared to regular markets. Head
on into town for the Big One. One small mini-market is
available inside the Laguna Resorts complex just across the
street from the lobby of the Allamada Resort. However, the
prices there are hotel and resort prices. Head out to town
if you are seeking more common prices.
In Cherng Talay, a
7-11 is just 50 meters east of the main traffic light where
the police station is located.
Bang Tao: Two 7-11s
are in town - as well as a variety of smaller markets closer
to the beach. One is just outside the Best Western Bang Tao
Beach Resort - and another is located on the beach road
heading towards Nok and Jo's.
